This car was sold new on the 1st of January 1982 to Shaun Bealey, the CEO of Maranello Concessionaires, who were the sole importers of Ferraris into the UK in the 1970s and 1980s.
It changed hands to Peter Stubberfield on the 7th of June 1982, the Chairman of the Ferrari Owners Club from 1970 until 1988, who part-exchanged a Ferrari Daytona 365 GTB/4 in the deal. It was then sold to Giovanna Furlanetto, who is the owner of the world renowned Furla fashion house. The car resided at her villa in Bologna for over 30 years.
I purchased the car in 2022 in a private deal. I had all of its mechanical elements refurbished in one of the largest and most renowned Ferrari specialist workshops in Italy, Autofficina Sauro in Bologna. The refurbishment took 10 months, after which I collected the car and drove it home to Ireland.
This 400i GT boasts the extremely rare specification of being both right hand drive and having a five-speed manual transmission. A mere 22 models were produced with this combination worldwide, and just seventeen are believed to still exist. The paint, Rosso Metallizzato, is also an extremely rare Ferrari colour; across the seventeen year production run of the entire 400 family (400 Automatic, 400i, 400 Automatic i and 400i GT), only twelve of the 1,800 cars received it.
The car has covered less than 1,000 miles per year on average. It has a number of special options from new, as specified by its first owner. These include the exposed front auxiliary lights, the Cavallino Rampante (the Prancing Horse) on the front grille, an all-black centre console, an all-black Nardi steering wheel, dark bonnet vents, Tobacco leather interior, and its Rosso Metallizzato paint.
This car was featured in the book "Ferrari: The Road Cars" by author Keith Bluemel.
The combination of its manual transmission and famous V12 Colombo engine, which also featured in models such as the 250, 275 and 365 GTB/4 Daytona, make this 400i GT a wonderful driving experience. Paired with its right-hand drive, extensive service history and immaculate condition throughout, this represents a fantastic opportunity to acquire an extremely rare, meticulously well-maintained example of one of the finest grand tourers ever produced.
